ATGA – Japan Pre-Season Market Briefing & Retail Immersion

In December, C7EVEN K.K. was engaged by the Australian Table Grape Association (ATGA) to coordinate and deliver a Japan pre-season briefing event for Japanese importers, buyers and trade stakeholders, followed by a retail market tour for visiting Australian producers.

Overview

Japan is one of the most exacting fresh produce markets in the world. Standards around quality, presentation, trust and consistency are exceptionally high — particularly in the premium fruit category, where consumer expectations are shaped by domestic producers and a highly refined retail culture.

In December, C7EVEN K.K. was engaged by the Australian Table Grape Association (ATGA) to coordinate and deliver a Japan pre-season briefing event for Japanese importers, buyers and trade stakeholders, followed by a retail market tour for visiting Australian producers.

The program was delivered entirely in Japan, in Japanese, and designed to reflect the professionalism and clarity expected by Japan’s fruit industry.

The Objective

As Australian table grapes continue to build presence in Japan, early-season communication plays a critical role in shaping buyer confidence and long-term relationships.

ATGA’s objectives were to:
• Provide Japanese importers and buyers with a clear pre-season overview
• Deliver information in a way that felt natural, professional and locally aligned
• Ensure visiting Australian producers gained practical understanding of Japan’s retail environment
• Present Australia as a reliable, market-aware supply partner

To achieve this, ATGA required a local partner capable of managing the full program seamlessly and in-language, while aligning both Japanese and Australian stakeholder expectations.

C7EVEN’s Role

C7EVEN K.K. was engaged to manage and deliver the entire program locally in Japan, acting as ATGA’s in-market partner.
Our scope included:
• End-to-end event coordination and delivery
• Japanese-language communication and materials
• Bilingual staffing and professional MC support
• On-site guest management and run-sheet control
• Design and facilitation of a structured retail market tour

Every element of the program was developed and delivered with Japanese business etiquette, industry norms and expectations firmly in mind.

The pre-season briefing event was designed to provide Japanese importers and buyers with a clear, structured and credible overview of the upcoming Australian table grape season.

C7EVEN managed all aspects of event delivery, including:
• Venue coordination and logistics
• Guest registration and reception
• Development and translation of all event materials
• Japanese-language MC and facilitation
• On-site coordination to ensure smooth flow and timing

By delivering the event fully in Japanese, the experience felt familiar and professional for local attendees. For Japanese buyers, the briefing aligned with the standards they expect when engaging with domestic industry organisations — reinforcing trust and confidence at an important point in the season.

A defining strength of the program was the clarity and consistency of bilingual delivery.
C7EVEN ensured that:
• All materials were translated using natural, industry-appropriate Japanese
• Messaging was adapted, not just translated, for local understanding
• On-stage facilitation and MC support maintained clear structure and flow
• Japanese and Australian participants experienced the program cohesively

This approach allowed ATGA’s messaging to land clearly with Japanese buyers, while ensuring Australian producers felt supported and informed throughout the program.

Retail Market Tour for Australian Producers

Following the briefing event, C7EVEN led a guided retail market tour for Australian producers visiting Japan.
The tour was designed to provide practical, in-market understanding of Japan’s premium fruit retail environment, including:
• Merchandising and display standards
• Packaging formats, labelling and origin cues
• Pricing structures and premium tier expectations
• Competitive positioning of domestic and imported grapes
• Consumer signals and seasonality indicators used in-store

Rather than abstract explanation, insights were shared directly in front of retail shelves, enabling producers to better understand how Japanese consumers assess quality and value in real purchasing environments.

Why This Program Worked

The success of the ATGA program was driven by clarity, cultural alignment and smooth execution.

C7EVEN delivered:
• Japan-ready communication from the outset
• A professionally structured event experience aligned with Japanese expectations of おもてなし (hospitality)
• Consistent bilingual delivery for mixed Japanese and Australian audiences
• Practical, retail-grounded market insight
• A calm, well-managed program from planning through to delivery

This ensured the focus remained on relationship-building and knowledge-sharing, rather than logistics.

Outcome

The Japan pre-season briefing and retail tour delivered:
• A strong and credible engagement opportunity with Japanese importers and buyers
• Clear seasonal communication delivered in natural Japanese
• Improved market understanding for Australian producers
• Reinforced confidence in Australia’s approach to the Japanese table grape market

The program positioned ATGA as a serious, well-prepared industry partner committed to long-term success in Japan.

What This Case Study Demonstrates

This project highlights C7EVEN K.K.’s ability to:
• Deliver bilingual, in-market programs for trade and industry bodies
• Manage complex stakeholder groups with professionalism and clarity
• Translate market nuance into practical understanding
• Act as a trusted local partner for Australian agrifood organisations in Japan

It is this combination of local presence, cultural fluency and disciplined execution that underpins successful industry engagement in Japan.

Final Thought

In Japan, confidence is built through consistency and attention to detail.
By delivering a clear, professional pre-season briefing and a practical retail immersion experience, C7EVEN helped ATGA engage the Japanese market in a way that felt familiar, credible and aligned with local expectations.
